About the clinic
A hearing centre in Johar Town, not a hearing aid shop
Bulleh Shah Hearing Center has been on the first floor of G-1 Market for five years. We test hearing, fit hearing aids from eight manufacturers, treat tinnitus, and repair aids in our own workshop on the premises.
How we work
Testing first, always
There is a version of this business that skips the hearing test. Someone walks in, says they cannot hear the television, and walks out with whatever the shop has most of. It is faster, and it is how a lot of hearing aids get sold.
We will not do it that way, because a hearing aid that has not been programmed to a real audiogram is an amplifier. It makes the loud parts louder along with everything else, which is exactly what a person with high-frequency loss does not need. It is also why so many hearing aids end up in a drawer.
So every fitting here starts with a test, and every test ends with us going through the chart with you until you understand what it says. If the test shows your hearing is fine, we will tell you that and you will not be sold anything.
What is different here
Four things you can check for yourself
Any clinic can claim to care. These are claims you can verify by walking up the stairs and looking.
Our own repair lab
A workshop on the premises for cleaning, re-tubing, receiver replacement, moisture treatment and earmould fabrication. Most jobs are finished here rather than posted to a distributor, which is the difference between a few days and a few weeks without your hearing aid.
Eight manufacturers, independently
Signia, Phonak, Rexton, A&M, Starkey, Unitron, Interton and ReSound. Carrying eight means we can recommend the one that fits your audiogram and your budget, including the cheaper one when the cheaper one will do.
Adults and children
Hearing loss in a child is a language problem before it is a hearing problem, because the early years are when speech is being built. We test children as well as adults, and we would rather see a child early for nothing than late for something.
Aftercare, not just a sale
The first few weeks with a hearing aid are the hardest, and it takes several adjustments before it settles. Come back as often as you need to get it right. An aid nobody tuned is an aid nobody wears.
In the clinic
What we test with
The equipment is not the point, but people ask, so here is what is in the room.
- Pure-tone audiometry
- Measures the quietest sound you can hear at each frequency from 125 Hz to 8 kHz. This is what produces your audiogram.
- Speech audiometry
- Measures how many words you can correctly repeat back, which is a different question from whether you can detect a beep, and often the more useful one.
- Tympanometry
- Checks that the eardrum and middle ear move as they should, which separates a conductive problem from a nerve one.
- Video otoscopy
- A small camera that puts the inside of your ear on a screen, so you can see for yourself whether the problem is wax or something else.
- Hearing aid programming
- Manufacturer software for every brand we carry, so the aid is set to your own test results rather than to a generic preset.
- Earmould fabrication
- Impressions taken and moulds made here, which is why a custom aid does not have to be sent away and back.
